I am fortunate to be retired because I can get out on my bike for a training ride whenever the weather is cooperating. (Hang in there Jeff, that will be you soon.) Spending the winter in south Florida definitely improves my chances for nice weather for training. This week was the exception however. With steady rain for three straight days, I opted for hours on a spin bike instead. Spinning in the gym is not my thing, but you do what you have to do I guess. One advantage of the spin bike was that it was easy for me to introduce interval training into my routine. It was great for me to be able to push myself harder knowing I was only going to be working out for 2 hours or so, as opposed to my long rides of 5 or 6 hours. I am happy to report that the sun did come out on Friday, so I got out on my bike and did a beautiful 76-mile ride up the coast and back. The video posted is of me climbing up and over the inlet at Lighthouse Point. It’s so flat here that this little incline is one of the few hills to train on. There are bigger and taller bridges down here and the bike junkies race up and down them for training. Before my training season is over I might be joining them.
7 WEEKS from today we ride out of SAN DIEGO. I sure hope to be ready.
