The cross‑country ride is officially underway, and it’s already been a joy getting to know the incredible group we’re sharing this adventure with.

John and I came into this determined to savor every moment, and so far, it’s been easy to do just that.

Day One was a gentle 40‑mile warm‑up with about 3,400 feet of climbing — the kind of intro ride where you expect to ease in, find your rhythm, and enjoy the scenery.

And for the first 75%, that’s exactly what we got. Perfect temps in the 70s and low 80s, smooth roads, and drivers who were surprisingly courteous.

Then came the final stretch.
The last quarter of the ride tilted uphill and straight into a 20mph headwind, with gusts punching up to 30.
A climb that should’ve been steady and manageable turned into a grinding hour and a half of pushing, breathing, and reminding ourselves why we’re out here.

And honestly, that’s when the perspective hit hardest. I kept thinking about the people enduring cancer treatments they never asked for — the strength, the grit, the resilience they summon every single day. They don’t get to choose their battle. We chose ours. Their courage fuels ours, and if our miles can raise even a little support to make their fight easier, then every gust of wind is worth it.
We’re grateful, we’re energized, and we’re just getting started.
